Events: Amnesty International Summer Camp: Our Rights, Our Future 2007

Our involvement in this summer camp was a welcome additional bonus for our organisation and proved our capacity to engage in similar type actions with another main organisation. Our involvement in key aspects of the programme also proved mutually beneficial, as follows:

i) We successfully arranged and co-coordinated the participation of ten Palestinian youth through our partner organisation in Hebron, The International Palestinian Youth League. Three of the Palestinian participants were past-participants of our own school programme in Hebron and were directly chosen for this reason.

ii) We also assisted the Summer Camp Planning Committee in setting the objectives and general framework of the summer camp.

iii) We provided one workshop on conflict awareness and the relevance of human rights. The three Palestinian past-participants co-facilitated part of the workshop. There was also an additional advantage: one of the Irish participants was a past participant of our schools programme, and also co-facilitated the workshop. In both cases, we were therefore able to achieve another of our strategic objectives, namely to empower past-participants to engage directly in our summer programmes.

iv) We also assisted in the participants' preparations for a street action. By applying edited video presentations and posters produced by Israeli and Palestinian students on our own programme, we were able to apply our own pedagogical objectives and ultimately demonstrate the effectiveness of our resources within a non-formal context.
