"Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms."
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 26

SAB Circle

This is new forum for all past participants of the Schools Across Borders project!

The majority of students last year said they would continue to be interested in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Less said they would be interested in ongoing issues and incidents in Northern Ireland!

Most of you also said you would keep regular interest in human rights issues.

We want to encourage you! We want to give you the chances to continue your enthusiasm for human rights issues.

Prizes and Activists of the Year Awards

All contributors shall be awarded book-tokens.
You may contribute a maximum of three actions.
The most active students shall receive ticket vouchers to a gig of their choice.

Schools Across Borders shall sponsor a "Global Campaigner of the Year" Award, which will be awarded to the most active student in each school.

There will also be an overall category for the "Global Campaigner of the Year" Award, which will be awarded to the most active male and female student of all the participant schools in Ireland, north and south.

Both winners will be given a chance to participate in our Cross-Border summer camp or a Trocaire or Amnesty International, all-expenses paid. Both winners shall also be given the opportunity to participate in the Schools Across Borders Summer Camp or Trocaire Summer Camp.

How can you get into the SAB Circle?

Either you are involved in actions, or you're just interested? Either way, read on, choose the section that suits you best .... and contact us!

Option A: Write an Action Report!

Are you involved, or expect to be involved in some action, either at school or outside school?

It could be an action on any of the following themes:

  • Human rights
  • Local Community
  • Northern Ireland
  • Israel & Palestine
  • Other World Conflicts
  • Environment
  • Free-trade
  • Poverty
  • Development issues
  • Religious Perspectives
  • Media Awareness
  • Local & Global Interdependence

No matter what action you are involved in .... debates, clubs, petitions, demonstrations, awareness days, poster-making, essay-writing, etc., .... All such actions qualify!

Your Action Report should use these basic guidelines:

  • What was the action in the general sense? Who was involved?
  • Where and When?
  • Why did you decide on this action? What did you set out to achieve?
  • What did you do exactly?
  • How did the action go? What were the effects of the action on the participants?
  • What were the results or benefits of the action?
  • What did you learn from it personally?

Your Action Report should be no longer than 400 words, and may be accompanied by photos or sketches.

Option B: Open Themes: Write an Essay, Draw a sketch, Write a Poem ...!
Maybe, you're not involved in any action, and are just interested? Share your pioneering passion!

Just choose one of the themes mentioned above and contribute your opinions and perspectives in any of the following ways:

  • a 300 or 400 word essay
  • a 200 or 300 word poem
  • a series of three drawings or sketches

Option C: Do Some Research!
Maybe you would like to focus on one of our suggested research topics?

We are looking for students who are willing to do an extra bit of research on an issue in the project and to put it together in poster form or in a small folder. We will give you Guidelines.

All research will be posted on our website! Each Research topic may be 400 words maximum, and may include photos.

Choose one of the following topics and ask us for the Guidelines!
